Po Monkey's near Merigold Mississippi

The road dead ends at Po Monkey's and it sits on the edge of a cotton field. Nobody was around except a gray cat that kept coming out from under the place hissing at us as if to say, "go away, we're closed".  I'll be back when the cotton is high, for sure.

Luciky for me it was almost noon so we started drinking beer under the pecan trees. I brought along some big magnets for collecting bottle caps and misc. metal. We spent a few hours hanging out, collecting and exploring a couple of falling down shacks. I took pictures especially of the new and improved signage.

Here's what I found.

Shotgun shells, yes, right outside the front door. Cigarette lighters, keys on a crusty keychain, lots of bottle caps and nails.

Base

I made a base out of plywood and used the metal I found at Po Monkeys to make the building. The tin roof came from Waveland Mississippi, post Katrina.

Signs Added

I cut the signs out of thin board and painted them to match the current signs. Added stairs and railing.

Building Complete

The building is now complete. I've added lots of bottlecaps, a cigarette lighter, that shotgun shell and I made a historical marker sign.

Background Added

I added a background with a sunrise and forground of bottle caps and glass. In the sky scrabble letters read Delta Blues.

Finished Pieced

I've added a flag, tree from metal shavings, doves, a butterfly barrette, bullet casings, and a car. I took the cat magnet from my frig, it's not the same color as the gray cat that lives under the Monkey but it'll do. Whew! This piece is in Germantown at the Winter Arts Sale.
